The Creators of AIME

  • ​Dr. George Kovacs is a full-time professor of Emergency Medicine and is cross-appointed in the Departments of Anesthesia, Medical Neurosciences and Continuing Professional Development and Medical Education at Dalhousie University. He works clinically as an Emergency Physician at Charles V. Keating Emergency and Trauma Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada and is Medical Director of LifeFlight, the Provincial Critical Care Transport Program. Dr Kovacs is Medical Director of Dalhousie’s Human Body Donation Clinical Cadaver Program. He has made significant contributions as an author and editor of textbooks and peer reviewed publications including multidisciplinary National and International Guidelines related to his area of interest, airway management. He is an award-winning educator recently a recipient Dalhousie’s Academic Innovation award, receiving the Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians (CAEP) President’s Award and was a recipient of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal for his work during COVID. He’s happiest when with his love of his life Sandy, their 4 children and 3 grandchildren. Home is in Halifax, heart is on the Medway River in the woods at the end of Edith’s Point Road, Hemlock heaven enjoying family and working with his little red Massey to maintain this special place.

  • Dr. Law began his medical career with six years as a rural general practitioner before completing residency training in anesthesiology and subspecialty training in neuroanesthesia at Western University in Ontario. Since then, he has devoted his career to clinical practice, teaching, and research in anesthesiology, particularly in airway management. 

    He is a co-developer and co-director of the AIME airway management courses and has been deeply involved in the Difficult Airway Course for anesthesiologists. Dr. Law also chaired the Canadian Airway Focus Group, leading the development of national airway management guidelines, and serves as an executive member of the Project for Universal Management of Airways (PUMA). 

    An experienced clinical educator and researcher, Dr. Law has authored or co-authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. He is co-editor of the textbook Airway Management in Emergencies and continues to teach and lecture internationally on airway management topics. 

    In recognition of his contributions to anesthesiology in Canada — spanning clinical practice, research, guideline development, and education — Dr. Law was awarded the Gold Medal by the Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society, the society’s highest honour. 

  • Rob Sandeski trained and practiced as a funeral director before joining Dalhousie’s Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology in 2002 as an anatomy technician working alongside others as part of Dal’s Human Body Donation program. He was a respected teacher and innovator as he co-developed a first of its kind, Clinical Cadaver  Program for which he assumed a leadership role as Program Manager.  He completed his Diploma of Health Services Management in 2018. His work  as been recognized in nominations, awards and numerous publications as he brought something very human to learners at all levels of their training, changing their experience with the human body as a teacher after death. Rob’s work has compassionately touched thousands of individuals and family members at the intersection of life providing a unique after life that has saved many. Rob was a co-recipient of Dalhousie’s 2025 Academic Innovation award. An annual Rob Sandeski Clinical Cadaver Educational Innovation Grant will honour his legacy.​
